When we
think we are behind and we keep looking at the clock or looking at the
scoreboard, we are looking in the wrong direction. When we focus on anything
other than the task at hand, our focus is not where our focus should be. When
we focus on the task at hand, we are dramatically more successful than when we
are looking at the clock or the scoreboard to see whether we are ahead or
behind. If you keep looking at the scoreboard and you see you are behind, you
may get so dejected you put winning out of the question. The objective in any
circumstance defines what our next step must be. Knowing the score may help us
change our objectives but when we change objectives we must still implement the
tasks to be accomplished rather than continually trying to determine what the
score is or will be.
